Popular media personality and content creator Daddy Marto will be hosting an exciting new show alongside his wife, Koku Lwanga.
The reality dating show, Nairobi Bachelor, is set to debut on Showmax December 6.
This 13-part series promises to bring a fresh and captivating twist to the dating show genre, as noted by the streaming platform in a statement to Habari Digital.
“Nairobi Bachelor follows the journey of young bachelors and singletons as they embark on a quest to find their perfect match. Unsure of the outcome, each bachelor must use their senses and wit to find the woman of their dreams.”
The statement adds: “The show also features a unique Baggage segment, where potential couples must confront the skeletons in their closets. Will they accept their partner’s truth and move forward, or will the baggage be too heavy to carry?”
Having the married couple take on such a project follows a format seen in some incredibly successful reality shows recently.
Like Netflix’s popular series Love Is Blind, which has been adapted in multiple countries. The original US installment is hosted by married couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey.
Love Is Blind: UK is hosted by Matt and Emma Willis, a couple that has been married for close to 20 years.
“When the opportunity came up, I was excited and a little terrified,” Koku said on taking on the project.
“Hosting a show like this was completely outside my comfort zone, but I saw it as a chance to grow and embrace something new. I have always been passionate about meaningful connections and relationships, and the idea of being part of a project that celebrates love in all its complexity felt incredibly rewarding.”
Daddie Marto expressed enthusiasm in helping people find their partners in a time when genuine love is not easy to come by.
“Dating in 2024 is certainly not for the faint-hearted! Nairobi Bachelor reveals that dating in Kenya is both challenging and deeply rooted in cultural nuances. People are navigating a blend of traditional expectations and modern ideals, not to mention the influence of social media and dating apps. While technology has changed how we meet, the core of love – trust, respect, and vulnerability – remains the same.”
The show is produced by Real Strike Studios, the team behind the 2023 award-winning Kenyan short film Kanairo.
Show creator and director Clementina Kabutha spoke on the show’s inspiration noting: “Nairobi Bachelor was born from the desire to revolutionise the traditional dating show format. We wanted to create a platform that mirrors the complexities of modern love, where emotional connection, shared values, and the ability to handle life’s challenges are paramount.”
She added: “The show’s unique premise blends real-life stories, and engaging drama to strike the perfect balance between entertainment and authenticity. Featuring a diverse cast and set against Nairobi’s vibrant urban backdrop, Nairobi Bachelor infuses cultural richness and relatability, fostering a deep connection with its audience,”
