Kenya’s celebrated Afro Pop singer Sofiya Nzau is back with another song, and this time, she joins forces with renowned African acts to create magic.

The 24-year-old singer works with Nigeria’s Fireboy DML and South Africa’s Nomcebo Zikode on the newly released project.

The song, Meta,  is a fusion of cultures, with the artistes delivering powerful vocals in different languages. Sofiya’s Kikuyu shines bright, flying the country’s flag high.

The official lyric visualizer dropped on YouTube October 9.

“Working with Fireboy and Nomcebo has been an incredible experience. ‘META’ is an anthem of African unity celebrating our diverse cultures. For me, it is another opportunity to showcase the richness of our sound and spirit and another step towards taking Kenyan music to the global stage,” Sofiya said ahead of the song’s release.

She also took to her Instagram account to break down the song’s music genre and style.

“The Power of 3. A beautiful bridge connecting the sounds, languages, and cultures of South, West, and East Africa. Harmony manifesting unity over the infectious vibrations of 3-step. Three stars. One rhythm,” she wrote.

Music In Africa describes the track as a movement that celebrates the richness of music and African culture.

“The title ‘Meta’ draws inspiration from the concept of ‘three’ – a number that symbolises harmony, balance, and connection in various contexts. In this case, it represents the convergence of cultures while blending traditional African musical elements with contemporary production techniques.”

The report adds: “Just as Amapiano transformed the global music landscape, 3 Step is ready to leave its mark, proving that the power of music knows no borders. Deeply rooted in cultural heritage, this innovative style aims to reshape the African music scene, inviting listeners to connect through the unifying power of rhythm.”

The statement describes the unique, fast rising genre that this new song falls under- 3 Step, which originates from South Africa, and is “slowly taking over the dancefloors of the world.”

“3 Step is an irresistible fusion – both familiar and refreshingly bold. More than just music, it is a movement rooted in Africa’s rich musical traditions and designed for a global audience.”

Sofiya Nzau broke into the commercial music scene with her incredibly successful song Mwaki, which was remixed by Brazilian DJ and record producer Zerb before going on to be viral.

She made history last year after becoming the first East African artiste to reach 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

“I hope this encourages us to use what we have culturally; our language, instruments, visuals, it doesn’t matter what time it was made, just use our own because it’s also music and culture. I hope that our music is helping people embrace our culture more because others are,” she told Deeds Mag about the thrills of blending cultures and sharing hers with the world.
