Diddy arrested after Grand Jury indictment
Hip-Hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has been riddled with accusations of assault, has been arrested on unspecified federal charges.
The detainment was made on the American rapper while he was in a Manhattan hotel, and follows raids on two of his properties in Los Angeles and Miami in March as part of an “ongoing investigation” into sex trafficking by authorities, per BBC.
The New York Times reports: “The indictment is sealed and the charges were not announced but Marc Agnifilo, a lawyer for Mr. Combs, said he believed he was being charged with racketeering and sex trafficking.”
A statement from Diddy’s legal team called the detainment a “disappointing decision to pursue an unjust prosecution.”
“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combsis a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community,” attorney Agnifilo said.
He added: “He is an imperfect person but is not criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a statement on social media Monday night that “we expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”
A grand jury has been hearing testimonies from various accusers over the last few months as part of an ongoing criminal investigation as reported by TMZ.
