Dyana Cods: Set It hitmaker on finding out track trending
“Set It” has become an urban anthem over the last month, with the Kenyan track by Dyana Cods and Buruklyn Boys’ Ajay stealing the show on social media.
The track was released on YouTube on July 31, and its highly anticipated video dropped on August 22 following weeks of social media frenzy and love.
Just two weeks after its release, the video has garnered 2.6 million views, and has remained as a number 1 trending track on the video sharing platform since.
Over on social media, specifically TikTok, it has been pandemonium over the beloved track, with fans hopping onto the “set-it” trend, where they follow a perfectly choreographed routine as they dance to the tune.
First, one should have a baseball cap on- an essential on this challenge. Then, they should have the effortless rhythm as they reach down to “set it,” and reach up to “pick up” before they get to the “nigei ni chape chape” and later, the “anguka nayo.”
A quick search of the key words ‘Set It’ on TikTok reveals hundreds of clips of fans taking on the challenge, dancing to the catchy track.
Content creators on the platform have also had major viral moments after taking on the dance; like the popular TikToker Diaso (Iamdiaso), whose video dancing to Set It has surpassed 330,000 views.
While speaking about the song going viral in an interview, Dyana Cods said that its massive success took even her by surprise.
“When I heard that beat, I really liked it. I almost shut the studio doors- I didn’t want anyone else to have it. At first, I wanted something urban-tone, like G bag na Jug, because it was that Urbantone era,” she said.
Dyana Cods added: “When I heard Ajay’s verse, I was like this is it.”
“I had dropped that track like two weeks before, and it was just collecting dust. Until one TikToker called Papi Roman started the trend.”
The next day, the song was viral across the country.
“Papi Roman started the dance, and then other people started hopping in, like Diaso and Rahmu.”
The artiste went on to express her gratitude for the rise of social media, noting the impact that TikTok had on her song.
