Lupita Nyong’o podcast to focus on African Stories
The celebrated Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has announced that she will be launching a podcast centered on African stories.
The Oscar-winner shared through her social media pages that the podcast, dubbed Mind Your Own will premiere on September 19.
“Mind Your Own features stories from the African perspective: Forget about the hot button, newsworthy stories that you are used to hearing from the Continent!” Lupita wrote.
“This show is about the personal, intimate, individual and quirky stories that give light to who we are as Africans today!”
The actress then spoke about the creative process behind the program, revealing that the idea is deeply personal and close to her heart.
“I created Mind Your Own because I was homesick and I wanted to hear stories from other Africans navigating more than one world that they consider home like me. It’s also for anybody who has ever felt alien in one way or another; for everyone considering what it really means to belong,” she wrote.
The actress also shared a trailer of the podcast with her fans, and everything about it screams African culture and its intricacies.
From the African fabric colours used on the promotional clip, to the sounds of various African dialects, the podcast seems to be all about the continent and its people.
The actress describes it as “a storytelling show navigating what it means to belong.”
The show promises stories across the continent, as well as stories from Lupita herself, some of which she says have never been shared before.
“It is personal, intimate, thought provoking and sometimes a little messy. We go deep, we get funny, we get scary… sometimes we weep, and sometimes we really do surprise ourselves,” Lupita said, before adding that she has been working on the project for 5 years.
Lupita has been involved in multiple successful film projects recently, including A Quite Place: Day One, a 2024 horror- SciFi movie which is the third installment of A Quiet Place film series.
