Celebrated Rwandese singer Bruce Melodie has released a new track with an interesting name.
The song, Niki Minaji features South African duo Blaq Diamond, and has been described as having a blend of Amapiano beats and Afropop.
Its official video dropped on YouTube December 6, and has amassed over 960,000 views a week after it premiered.
The stunning visuals are a reminder of the beauty that lies within Africa, featuring culture that crosses over from South Africa to East Africa.
Choreography on the project is heavily Rwandese, with glimpses of that special Umushagiriro dance where dancers wave and twist their arms melodically.
The fashion is however a fusion of various cultures across the continent with men on the video rocking head-dresses and flowing kanzus that look like traditional Swahili attire fit for young kings.
Music In Africa reports: “The new single is not specifically about Nicki Minaj the person, but more about what she represents as a symbol of beauty, confidence and allure. The message of the song is that his love for his partner is so deep, even someone as iconic as Nicki Minaj – or any other bold, sexy woman – feels irrelevant when compared to her.”
Bruce Melodie spoke about making the video, which was shot in Kigali and directed by Jean Chretien Munezero.
“I wanted to show that when you’re truly in love, no other person, no matter how stunning, sexy or bold they are, can compare to this one girl I adore,” the singer said.
He also announced his forthcoming first full-length album ‘Colorful Generation’ which is set to be released in early 2025.
Capital FM’s The Sauce notes: “The project features collaborations with African heavyweights like Joeboy on the lead track “Not A Lie” , Kenyan star Bien on “Iyo Foto” and international reggae /dancehall star Shaggy on “When She’s Around (Funga Macho)” a bonus track, as well as solo records that amplify Bruce’s golden voice and standalone talent.”
