Popular Kenyan podcaster and content creator Murugi Munyi is airing her views in the wake of the shutting down of Body By Design, a cosmetic clinic.
The medical facility was closed after the death of a patient, Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a, who had just had a procedure done there.
Taking to her TikTok account, Murugi said that she had been debating on whether to speak out, while expressing sympathy for the deceased’s family.
“I have been affiliated with Body By Design since I did my liposuction there 2 years ago, in 2022. At the time, I was not working with them… but obviously I posted and said ‘this is where I did my lipo.’”
Murugi claimed that she paid full price for her procedure at the time, and that it was not an advertisement.
“Since then, I have done some work with them, most recently I have been getting my semaglutide weight loss injections from there and have worked with them for a long time.”
The content creator then touched on the elephant in the room, Lucy’s tragic death.
Lucy succumbed under unclear circumstances, with loved ones saying that she lost her life days after a botched procedure at the clinic.
Body By Design released a statement after much uproar, saying that they have launched an investigation into their client’s cause of death.
Murugi added: “This situation is extremely sad, my heart goes out to her husband and her entire family. Nobody deserves to die in pain. My condolences to them.”
“That being said…I am not a medical professional, and neither do I work at Body By Design. I’m not an expert in cosmetic surgery… I only share what experience and the fact that I’ve been going there since I got my lipo [and the aftercare].”
“I will say that I know Body By Design are co-operating with the authorities to do a proper investigation, and my hope and prayer for the sake of Lucy’s family and friends is that justice will be served in this situation if indeed there was negligence or any kind of issue,” the mum of three said.
On October 31, The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) ordered the immediate closure of the facility due to serious health and safety violations under CAP 253 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.
The hospital is now fighting the closure and denying wrongdoing in Lucy’s death.
