The celebrated Nigerian singer Wizkid released his new song, Piece Of My Heart on October 18, and barely a week on, it is breaking records across streaming platforms.
Featuring American singer Brent Faiyaz and fusing the two artiste’s unique styles, it was promising from the start- given Wizkid’s known prowess when it comes to the success of his international collaborations.
Now, the track has become the first song to hit the 1 million stream mark on its opening day on Spotify Nigeria.
“The song recorded 1.016 million streams on Spotify in a day,” per Daily Post Nigeria.
The report adds: “Consequently, Nigeria became the 22nd country to see a song receive over 1 million streams on its Spotify Chart in a single day. ‘Piece of My Heart’ debuted at 90 on the Global Spotify Chart with 1.7 million streams. The song recorded 2.27 million streams globally on its first day of release.”
The artiste continues to break records on other platforms too, becoming a trending song on YouTube, where it has garnered 1.20 million views during its first week alone (October 18-24). This saw it surpass the previous record (on YouTube Nigeria) of 1.18 million views held by Fireboy’s ‘Peru’ remix featuring Ed Sheeran.
Within 10 days of its release, the track’s official video already has over 3.8 million views.
It’s the lead single from Wizkid’s upcoming sixth studio album Morayo, which will be released on Nov. 22 via Starboy/Sony Music International/RCA Records, per BillBoard.
