Popular rapper Jackson ‘Prezzo’ Ngechu has been an iconic figure in Kenya’s rap space since the early 2000s.

His music thus far has been secular, often focusing on braggadocious lyrics about money, power and partying.

But now, the celebrated artiste has turned over a new leaf, publicly proclaiming the Christian faith and even releasing a gospel track.

News of Prezzo’s devotion to Christ and new music was announced by Reverend Lucy Natasha of Nairobi’s Empowerment Christian Church (ECC).

She took to her Instagram page on Sunday October 27, sharing a clip from the day’s service, where the rapper gave a speech to the congregation before performing his new song for the first time.

“I want to send a very big shout-out to my Reverend Natasha. Reverend, you know if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be in this gospel zone,” the rapper said on the clip.

He added: “We’re going to do a song for the Lord, and I’m blessed enough to premiere the song in front of you beautiful people.”

The renowned reverend captioned the video with words of encouragement to the rapper, and anyone else who is seeking God.

“When you enter His presence with praise He enters your circumstances with power!” she wrote, adding, “Congratulations to my spiritual son Prezzo for the release of your new gospel song that launched today at ECC.”

“May God use you to reach our youth. Our generation is our responsibility. Proud of you son.”

The live service was streamed on Reverend Natasha’s YouTube channel.

The rapper was accompanied by his mother to the special ceremony, and congregants prayed for the two after his performance.

While he is yet to issue a statement about his new path, the rapper has hinted at being more involved with the church over the last few weeks.

He shared a photo on Instagram on October 13 while signing  into a book with the reverend present, captioning it: “A seed of today is a fruit of tomorrow. Y’all stay blessed.”
