American rapper Wiz Khalifa is being charged with illegal drug possession following a July incident that took place in Europe.

Romanian authorities have completed investigations, resulting in the indictment of the 37-year-old.

Wiz is in trouble for lighting a joint while performing onstage at the Beach, Please! music festival in Costinesti, per Rolling Stone.

“The Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism published a press release detailing the indictment, which has been sent to court for trial. The release notes that Khalifa was in possession of 18.53 grams of cannabis in addition to ‘a cigarette that contained cannabis.’”

Romania has strict rules about drugs, and cannabis is illegal in the European country.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol, found in cannabis), is classified as a high-risk drug and is prohibited by the Law. Romanian law does not allow any sale or distribution of general cannabis products (e.g. oil, flour, or food supplements) containing THC, regardless of the concentration, per CMS law firm.

“The recreational use of cannabis is forbidden. However, in late 2018, the Romanian Supreme Court issued a ruling decriminalising the procuring of products with psychoactive effects, by a final consumer, for personal use,” the report notes.

It adds: “The industrial use of cannabis is permitted only if it is processed for technical purposes, for the production of strains, fibres, seeds and oil, or for medical or scientific purposes.”

At the time of the incident, Wiz Khalifa spoke out, taking to social media to express regret.

“Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon- but without a big [expletive] joint next time,” the rapper wrote on X.

Wiz operates his own cannabis brand called Khalifa Kush, which was developed in the early 10s, according to its official website.
