The renowned American supermodel Tyra Banks returned to the catwalk after 19 years at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Show.
The prestigious fete was held at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York on October 15 after a 6-year hiatus.
US Weekly reports that the supermodel, 50, proved she’s still got the spark that she had throughout her lustrous modelling career.
“Banks popped up from under the stage to close the show, rocking sparkly gray leggings paired with a silver bodice ensemble. The look was completed with a matching metallic cape.”
The report added: “As Banks strutted down the runway, her cape flowed in the wind. After reaching the end of the catwalk, the supermodel twirled the cape around in a showstopping manner. As the show concluded, Banks was joined on stage by her fellow Victoria’s Secret angels.”
Banks had walked her last Victoria’s Secret Show in 2005 before embarking on a career in television.
In September, she said in an interview that her return to the catwalk felt like an “out-of-body experience.”
“When I decided to retire, Victoria’s Secret had come to me and had another contract on the table,” she said.
“And I decided that ‘No, I need to be a talk show host, and I need to be trusted for my words. I don’t think I can be taken seriously if I am still a model,’ and maybe that was true at that time.”
She added: “But now, the world has evolved in such a way that I can be a businesswoman and have my ice cream company and speak at business institutions and get my certificate from my Harvard course and teach at Stanford and, yes, be a Victoria’s Secret model.”
The model praised the increased diversity on the show, calling it exciting, while not ruling out future appearances.
This year’s Victoria’s Secret Show has been described as star-studded and history making.
It was also an event that marked a new chapter for the lingerie brand, which strived to showcase that its future is being shaped by women, per CNN Style.
“The presence of the female gaze was felt throughout the evening with a production that featured an all-women musical lineup, and a diverse cast of models wearing more sophisticated — and in some cases, more comfortable-looking lingerie, including leggings and sheer coverups.”
The report noted the evolution of the show, which showcased more plus sized models, racial diversity, and natural hairstyles worn this time around.
“Tuesday’s multi-racial, -size and -generational cast is Victoria’s Secret’s latest pitch at a rebrand, while bringing back some of the kitsch and camp of the once iconic show, now streamed live on its social media platforms instead of heavily edited as a television special.”
