Celebrated singer Bien-Aimé Baraza is looking back at the little known details of his 2020 wedding to choreographer and talent manager Chiki Kuruka.
He opened up about the ceremony in an interview with MC Jessy, noting that although it was not a grand wedding, family and friends had a lovely time at the exclusive event.
“My wedding had 50 guests only, no phones. Nilienda kwa AG asubuhi nikafanya hizo vitu, nika kuja nika have lunch, (I went to the Attorney General’s office in the morning, came back and had lunch),” he said.
The vocalist added that the wedding didn’t cost him too much either, and on being probed, said that a budget of about Sh300,000 covered the sentimental evening that saw guests enjoy a 5 course meal.
“There was an open bar, we sent out invites on a Wednesday and the wedding was on a Friday.. ndio msinibuyie (so that people don’t buy) gifts,” Bien said, while humorously adding that he didn’t want loved ones to purchase cutlery for the newlyweds.
“Mimi na dem yangu tuliangalia tuka sema sasa (My girl and I reflected) what are we spending money on? A better future together”
The singer noted that they opted for a small, intimate ceremony with close friends and family only, and those who made the invite list had to have been close enough to have come over for dinner at Bien and Chiki’s home in the past.
“You find that there are so few people who have come over for dinner at your home. Even some relatives haven’t stepped there.”
“The reason why I sent out the invitations two days before ndio budangu asikuje na bus kutoka Kakamega (so that my dad doesn’t bring a bus of people from Kakamega),” the former Sauti Sol band member said, cracking up MC Jessy.
He also revealed that there were performances from celebrated artistes Nyashinski and Nameless, who thrilled the small crowd and elevated the mood.
It was a magical evening, and although Bien’s parents may have wanted something grand at first, he said, they agreed that they had a beautiful experience.
