Kenyan recording artiste Jovial is hitting out at unnamed producers for leaking her unreleased tracks.
The Chanda Chema singer took to her Instagram account, where she uploaded Stories expressing her frustration.
“ Some producers learn to be professional! When you work with an artiste let it be confidential. Stop leaking their unreleased songs without their consent!” She wrote on the since deleted post.
The singer further called such acts ‘backward’ and threatened to take legal action in the future, writing: “It is unprofessional na ni ushamba! Ntaacha kuwa mpole nitawatia ndani!”
Over the past few weeks, Jovial has been heavily promoting her most recent song, Baisho, whose video dropped on YouTube September 19.
The singer, who was born and raised in Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa is known for her beautiful voice and catchy Swahili tunes that can compete with the best in the Bongo scene.
She describes her music style as Afrofusion with a twist of Zouk and R&B.
“I love singing in Swahili language as I feel comfortable and this way I can express myself well too. I also believe it defines my true identity as a Kenyan,” she told Nation in an interview.
Boomplay reports that Jovial started experiencing a steady rise in fame in 2019 due to her feature on Otile Brown’s song Zichune.
“She had worked with artistes such as Ben Pol and released singles such as Chanda Chema and Deejay before getting known by many.”
“The collaboration [Zichune], led to even more fruitful future collaborations with Otile on songs such as Amor and Such Kinda Love. Such Kinda Love has proven to be their best collaborative effort, garnering over 27 million views.”
