The renowned gospel artiste Kambua Mathu is sending out warm wishes, encouragement and love to mothers who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
She took to her TikTok page to share a candid message to them.
On the one-and-a-half-minute clip, the Umetenda Mema singer says: “Every time somebody asks me ‘how many children do you have?’, I really, really struggle- because do I have two children because I have two at home…or do I have three children because I gave birth to three and one left? Or do I have four children because I had a miscarriage? I really don’t know how to answer that question.”
In February 2021, the singer made the painful revelation that she had lost her precious new born son, Malachi, just days after he came into the world.
And last year, the singer and digital creator shared through a YouTube video that she had also suffered an early pregnancy loss (miscarriage), although she did not state the exact dates when it happened nor give more information.
Kambua continued on her message to mums: “They were all pregnancies that I carried. They were all babies that I valued and wanted to hold.”
“October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. And this is a month where we take time to remember mothers who have gone through miscarriage like I did… I never knew that I would be the one in four who will have a miscarriage.. I never knew that I would be the one in eight who would experience child loss, but this is the reality that we live with.”
She added: “The mother who lost an embryo, the one who lost a twin pregnancy, the mother who lost a child at birth, the mother who had a stillbirth, the mother who cannot conceive- this is a month where we remember all of you.”
“And to remind you that you are seen, and that you are so loved, and you are not alone, so hey mama, it’s gonna be okay, from my heart to yours.”
The beloved singer looked back at the heartbreak of losing a baby through detailed Instagram stories in 2022.
“The smallest coffins are the heaviest. One day I’ll tell you about that. Not today but someday,” she said at the time.
She added: “If you know somebody who has had a miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, call them, text them now if you can. Let them know they are loved. Let them know their baby mattered.”
As she shared her most recent video on social media, her caption urged everyone to be extra supportive of mums who have experienced child loss.
The gospel singer wrote: “The grief of bereaved parents is often overlooked… people move on, and expect that you should too. But the reality is that, loss is crippling- whether it’s a miscarriage, a stillbirth, a lost embryo… loss is heavy and it cuts deep.”
“This month let’s hold space for those around us who have had to navigate this harsh reality. Hold them close. Love on them.”
