The renowned music producer Teddy B is reportedly engaged in a disagreement with Tanzanian singer Ali Kiba over the copyright ownership of a popular song.
The track, Top Notch, by the Bongo singer featuring Marioo was released on September 14 and produced by Cukie Dady, per Boomplay and Apple Music.
A scroll through YouTube shows that one of the video’s official visualizers has been taken down after a copyright strike.
“This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Signature Scope Beats,” an error message reads in part.
The Kenyan producer, who is known for creating hit tracks like Willy Paul’s Kuu Kuu, Bahati’s Adhiambo as well as many gospel tracks, will be sending out a demand letter to the Tanzanian singer, a source exclusively reveals to Habari Digital.
“Ali Kiba and Marioo’s song Top Notch has a similar sound to Willy Paul and Marioo’s Na Na Na, and that’s where the conflict came.”
The renowned producer recently signed a copyright management agreement with IP Advisory and Management Services Ltd (IPAMS).
“The partnership aims to ensure that both producers are fairly compensated for the commercial use of their music compositions across various platforms,” Nairobi News reports.
“Under the terms of the agreement, IPAMS will take on the crucial role of tracking, collecting, and securing royalties from companies that use the producers’ music.”
