Dlamini Nkululeko, a South African fitness influencer known for his physique is in Kenya.
The influencer rose to fame last year for his toned thighs and gluteal muscles, and is in the country for the Fitness Explosion Challenge which is set for Saturday September 21.
Sowetan Live reports that his success is a product of his signature squat routine scored with maskandi music, and combined with the power of social media.
“My fitness journey started with soccer. I grew up playing soccer at home and my dream was to end up as a professional soccer player,” Dlamini told the publication, talking about his upbringing in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.
“I played in the Mayor’s Cup, then got scouted by AmaZulu FC. I was meant to sign with them, but they held off and said they’d get back to me. I carried on with school and told myself if it was meant to be it would come back to me.”
The influencer was studying at the University of Free State and trying to get a spot on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at the time.
The report notes that although Dlamini was immensely talented in the sport, most of his time on the PSL was spent at the gym.
“Personal training then became his calling, and he often found himself training his teammates in the PSL, as well as the Swazi king’s son and his wife. His technique inspired the exercise routine we now see on social media, which he defines as ‘core train’.”
The influencer addressed the press after arriving in the country yesterday, where he gave some tips for the perfect squatting posture.
“When we’re doing the squat, we do 45 degrees, not 90. We call the exercise we’re doing core train and it deals with the whole body, from the top to the bottom,” he said.
